TEHMINA SHAHID

Tehmina is currently studying towards a PGCE after getting support from Merit during a Train to Teach recruitment event.

I did my MBA in Pakistan and started my career in Finance. I have always had a passion for teaching and decided to pursue it as a career after moving to the UK. However, with no prior experience of teaching and being new to the country, I was not sure how to go about it.

I started to browse the internet for information and came across MERIT. I contacted Sheba Joseph who asked me to attend a ‘Train to Teach’ open day where we met for the first time.

Sheba was extremely friendly, approachable and willing to answer all my questions. She had great knowledge of the process and helped me choose the best route in order to become a teacher. She also helped me with my CV preparation, personal statement and interviewing skills, which were all a great help.

I started working as a bilingual teaching assistant with EMTAS (Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service) in Gateshead, and the experience of visiting different schools to deliver lessons and presentations proved invaluable in building my confidence in a classroom environment.

I am currently doing my PGCE and am really grateful to Sheba and MERIT for all the guidance and support I was given when I needed it.

Many Thanks!
